Joseph "Jody" Darwin Harrop, 74, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, July 7, 2012, after a long and valiant battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. His positive attitude, courage and bravery set a great example and he was a hero to all who knew him. Jody was born July 17, 1937 in Ogden Utah to Joseph R and Alta Hunt Harrop. He was the oldest of six children. He was raised in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School in 1955. He married Mary Burkhart and together they had three children. They were later divorced. He married Susan Nye and together they had five children. They were sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple for Time and All Eternity on September 25, 1976. Jody was a builder all of his life and did beautiful wood work. He enjoyed bowling, watching the Utah Jazz and he especially loved spending time with his family; Lake Powell, snowmobiling, camping, hunting, fishing, watching his grandchildren''s sporting events and playing games. Over the past five years of his life he enjoyed completing the family cabin. He is survived by his wife, Susan and eight children: David (Peggy) Harrop, Hooper; Debbie (Larry) Holt, Eden; Shelley Gamble, Bear River; Brett (Jenny) Harrop, Liberty; Jodie (Craig) Thompson, Mountain Green; Blake (Shannon) Harrop, Hooper; Jason (Natalie) Harrop, West Warren; Kristin (Tim) Harris, Syracuse. He leaves a posterity of 26 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers; Dan, Wendell, Kris and Reed and one sister, Lorraine Mottes. The family would like to thank Vista Care Hospice, especially Cynthia, Nesha, Phil and Brandi for loving and taking such good care of him for so long. They are truly part of the family. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 12th at 11 a.m. at the Shannondoah Ward Chapel, 5000 South 5900 West. The family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church. Interment, Hooper Cemetery.
