Joseph Lawrence Hunter
Joseph Lawrence Hunter passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012 in Roy, Utah. He was born on April 30, 1916 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Joseph Harold and Dorothy Elsie Owen Hunter.
He attended Ogden schools and played the snare drum and saxophone. He worked as a soda jerk and candy maker for the Hunter Candy Company, owned by his father.
Lawrence married June Carver on August 17, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had 3 children, Barbara, John and Karen. They were later divorced.
He owned and operated a farm in Burley, Idaho for 18 years working with horses, raising crops, animals and 5, 000 chickens. He also worked at the sugar factory and the Morris Mitchell Machine shop in Burley. He installed and repaired large water pumps for irrigation in Burley and in Klamath Falls, Oregon. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Ward Clerk and helped build the Pella Chapel in Burley, Idaho in 1949.
Lawrence married Beth Carr Peterson on May 12, 1981.
He traveled in Mexico, Canada and the Western States. Lawrence and Beth loved to square dance together and Lawrence enjoyed hiking.
Lawrence leaves behind his wife, Beth, Ogden; three children, Barbara (Leland) Howell, Orem; John L. (LaDawn) Hunter, Roy; and Karen (Ron) Peterson of Hooper; three step-children, Jolene (Jon) Neese, Farmington; Gerald (Nonna) Carr, Willard; and Larry (Billie) Carr, Queen Creek, Arizona; 23 grandchildren and 70 great-grandchildren; and sister Cleone Hess, Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Maxine Thompson.
A Graveside service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Aultorest Cemetery. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
