Joe Kearsley, 83, of Bountiful, Utah, passed away at Lakeview Hospital on December 2,2024.
Joe was born on April 10, 1941, in Murray, Utah to Ruth (Soderberg) and Joseph “Ted” Kearsley. While growing up in Midvale, when not in school or hunting and fishing, he did many, many chores for his parents. For example, he helped manage the families’ egg farm gig, feeding the chickens, collecting eggs, maintaining the coop, and caring for the flock.
Joe worked at his father’s gas station after school as a teen. He graduated from Jordan High School, joined the Utah Air National Guard, and earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from Utah State University. He met Cherrol at Utah State, and they married on May 17, 1963. Joe worked in engineering for 30 years, his career taking him to Blacksburg, Virginia, Minneapolis, Minnesota, and then back to Utah at Hill Air Force Base.
Joe was known for being meticulously organized. He was logical and intelligent and, best of all, kept an open mind. He applied the scientific method to most decisions. Joe was a voracious reader and continuous learner. He studied and mastered photography. He and Cherrol loved all things outdoors. Joy for them was riding dirt bikes, camping, hiking, kayaking, and taking amazing outdoor photos.
Joe is survived by his three children, Leo (Victoria), Alan (Heidi), and Jill Stott (Reni); his grandkids, Alexis (Wesley), Beth, Sierra, Emily, Asher, and Ryder; his siblings, Dixie Martineau (Antoine), Karen Davis (Dave), and Janet Boehm (Doug). He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Ruth, and his wife, Cherrol May.
Family and friends are invited to an informal celebration of Joe’s life to be held on Saturday, December 14, at 1:00 p.m. at their church, 720 East 550 North, Bountiful, Utah.
