Joseph Geddes Murray
Joseph Geddes Murray was born 8 August 1930 to Maude Geddes and Thomas Harrison Murray. He grew up in Pleasant View, Plain City, and Ogden, Utah. He married Floy Christensen in the Logan LDS Temple on 17 June 1949.
He was one of the first Eagle Scouts in Plain City and lived the Scout Oath and Promise throughout his life. He influenced the lives of many young men for good as a Scoutmaster for more than 20 years. He was awarded the Silver Beaver.
Joseph was a firefighter for 37 years and retired as the Ogden City Fire Chief. He served as a State Legislator from 1994 to 2006.
He served as Bishop, teacher, quorum leader, High Councilor and as a faithful home teacher in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of his favorite callings was teaching gospel doctrine. He had a strong testimony and lived accordingly.
Joseph was our father and mentor and taught us the Gospel of Jesus Christ and many other life skills. He could fix or build almost anything. He built a cabin with the help of his family over 32 years ago which has created sweet memories and wonderful times ever since.
He loved his eternal companion and his family. He was very proud of all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by Floy, children: Susan (Jerry) Baker, Stuart (Brenda) Murray, Patricia Pitt Brenchley (late Jim Pitt), Russell (Annette) Murray, Carolyn (Randy) Tometich, and Richard (Tiffany) Murray; 33 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, foster daughter Charlotte Brown and his brother Evan Murray.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Hugh, Clair, Margaret, Faye, Martena, Louann, and one grandchild, Zachary Tometich. It was surely a glorious reunion for him and his family on the other side of the veil.
