Joseph Max Nielsen

Joseph M. Nielsen, 91, passed away October 1, 2019 of causes incident to age.  He was born July 28, 1928 in Cleveland, Idaho to Lorenzo and Bess B. Probst Nielsen.

He grew up on a farm and was taught good work ethics.  He graduated from Rural High School No. 3 in Grace, Idaho in 1947. He served proudly in the U.S. Army.  After leaving the army, he moved to Utah with his family.  He started working at Hill Air Force Base in 1951, where he met his wife, Jean Nielsen.  They were married on October 15, 1954.  He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1983.

He is survived by his daughter Robyn Loya, step-children: John Mortensen (Merleen), Linda Sieracki, seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert, Richard and Wayne Nielsen, one sister Lois Franklin, son-in-law Jerry Sieracki and two great-grandsons Tyler Evans and Zeth Mortensen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah.  Friends may visit with family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
