Joseph Lewis Obermiller (86) of Layton, Utah passed away suddenly on March 13, 2025. Joe was born on September 28, 1938 in Dover, Ohio to Edward John Obermiller and Ada Mae Miller.
He attended school in Dover, Ohio through the 12th grade, but was one credit short of graduating. Kind of funny for the genius he was. He was a self-taught brilliant man. Joe married Sharon Lee Hamblin (the love of his life for 64 years) on January 21, 1961 in Elko, Nevada.
They lived in Farmington, Kaysville, Layton, Utah, and Dover and Strausburg, Ohio.
Joe never met a stranger. He was everyone’s friend. He was so funny, and his laugh could not be mistaken. And he laughed often.
He loved tinkering with electronics and musical instruments, and he made his living doing just that. He was a car mechanic earlier in life.
He is survived by: Wife: Sharon Lee Obermiller. Daughters: Laura Lee York (Donald York), Connie Sue Romero (Ronald Romero), and Cindy Lou Chugg (Robert Chugg). His son: Edward Joseph Obermiller (Allison Dye Obermiller). His sisters: Betty Thomblin, Mary Aul, Ada Mae Cooper, and Sandra Roney. Also 27 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: Father: Edward John Obermiller, Mother: Ada Mae Petersheim, Brothers: Johnny Obermiller, Jerry Obermiller, and Steve Petersheim, and several half brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his widow via the Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, Utah..
His celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Thank you, everyone, for your warm love and caring.
