Joseph Earl Stone

CLEARFIELD a€" Joseph Earl Stone, 90, passed away peacefully at his home on March 3, 2009 with his wife by his side.

The world has lost a giant of a man. He put others first, he lived simply, he loved generously, he cared deeply, he spoke kindly and he left the rest to God. We love and respect him for these traits. We have been incredibly blessed to have him as our husband and father.

He was born June 1, 1918 in Ogden, Utah, to Blaine Henry Stone and Martha Garner.

He married Mary Elba Ross on January 8, 1944 in Ogden, Utah and later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. Joe grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School, and served his country in Africa in the Algeria French Morocco battle.

Joe retired from Hill Air Force Base after 32 years. He was active in the LDS Church and served faithfully in his callings. In his earlier years he enjoyed swimming, golfing and woodworking.

Joe is survived by his wife Elba; children: Joseph Michael Stone (Eileen) of Brigham City and Kathleen Rae Moultrie (Tim) of Kaysville; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Reed; and his brother, Leonard Stone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Howard and his sister, Edna.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield 4th Ward chapel, 838 East 600 South in Clearfield. Friends and family may call Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Funeral services under the direction of Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery, 1050 South State.

We extend our deep appreciation for the nurses and aids from Hospice for Utah. Our father was so grateful for the devoted doctor and staff, especially Lisa, Debbie, Kathy and Heather who provided extraordinary care, friendship and love to both Mother and Dad.
