Joseph F. Swider

Joseph Frank Swider, 93, of Kaysville, Utah, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 at Ogden Regional Medical Center. Joe was born November 3, 1924 to Joseph and Roseann Swider in New Britain, Connecticut, and was one of five children. He married Alice Vadella on June 15, 1946 at St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Olyphant, Pennsylvania. After being happily married for 60 years, Alice passed away in 2006.
Joe served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was discharged in May 1946. After his marriage to Alice, he graduated from watch making school, and worked for Kaman Engineering in Hartford, Connecticut. He retired in 1987, and he and Alice moved to Utah to be with their only son, Joseph P. Swider, and family. Joe loved the outdoors, especially golfing and fishing. He enjoyed gardening, and making model aircraft. He was a member of the Catholic Church Men’s Association, and was an Usher at the Saint Rose of Lima Parish in Layton, Utah.
Joe is survived by his daughter-in-law, Susan Swider Bates (David); three grandchildren, Rebecca Swider Mitchell (Braden), James Swider (Melissa), and Brittany Swider Ferguson (Sean); and 14 great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, wife, and son.
Joe will be laid to rest at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. next to his beloved wife Alice, on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 following a mass at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Chapel Street, Layton, Utah. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
