Joseph Tippets, 84, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Peach Tree Place.
He was born May 6, 1925 in Georgetown, Idaho to Joseph Maurice and Hannah Wixom Tippets. He was the 10thth of 13 children. Joe and his twin, John, had a very special and deep bond throughout their lives.
After graduation from Ogden High school, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Telamon. For his service in the military he was honored with several medals.
On December 4, 1946, Joseph married Joyce Darlene Jones in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.
He was a member of the LDS Church and served in various callings.
He worked as a switchman for OUR&D Railroad. Joseph was a jack of all trades and could fix anything mechanical, but his greatest love was working with his family in the car business. Joe and Joyce served as volunteers at the Hooper Senior Center and received civic awards for their service to the community.
He loved to sing and shared his talent with family and friends. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed taking them hunting, fishing and camping.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Joyce; four sons, Michael (Dixie) Tippets, Roger (Diane) Tippets, Steven Tippets, Tim (Denise) Tippets, two daughters, Jody (Hans) Vanderbeek, Linda (Bob) Chapman; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Thad Tippets, Wayne Tippets, Lewis Tippets, and one sister, LaRue Brown.
He was preceded in death by seven siblings, Lucille Bassett, Maurine Harrison, Reed Tippets, Ray Tippets, Nellie Haddon, Mildred Gomm, and his twin brother, John Tippets.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 30th at 11:00 a.m. at the Country Meadows Ward Chapel, 3628 South 2700 West, with Brother Terry Tippets, officiating.
Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Hooper Cemetery, where Military Honors will be accorded.
