Joseph John Walsh
OGDEN- Joseph J. Walsh, 86, passed away at his home in Ogden, Utah , on Wednesday, July 18, 2007. He was born on August 27, 1920, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to John Walsh and Mary Heavey Walsh.
Joe married Audrey Moloughney, his high school sweetheart, on April 28, 1943, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in January 1942 and became a pilot serving in the Pacific during WWII. He flew combat missions out of Liangshan, China, with the Chinese- American Composite Wing, 14th Air Force. He also flew missions in the Vietnam War. Joe received numerous awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. He was a Lt. Col. when he retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1965. In retirement he was a member of the Daedalians at Hill AFB.
Joe graduated from St. Peters Preparatory Academy in New Jersey, received his B.S. from Weber State University and his Master’s Degree from Utah State University.
Joe was an avid golfer as evidenced by his many trophies and two holes in one. He also enjoyed playing chess and coin collecting.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey; two daughters, Joan Howland, Reston VA, and Diane Fry, San Francisco, CA; and one granddaughter, Danielle Reick, San Francisco, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Judy Zetterstrom.
Memorial services will be held Monday, July 23, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 East 5550 South, Ogden.
Cremation under the direction of Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary.
Interment – Arlington National Cemetery
