Josephine Buckway Thomas

OGDEN a€" Our sweet giving mother, Josephine Buckway Thomas, 84, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010, with her loving children by her side.

She was born December 21, 1925 in Ogden, Utah, along with her twin brother Joseph, to Jacob and Anneke Ophiekens Buckway. Josephine was raised on a farm with 11 brothers and sisters and was taught true family love and the value of hard work at an early age. She attended Weber County Schools.

Josephine married Willis S. Thomas on October 26, 1946. Willis preceded her in death 12 years ago after 50 years of marriage.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

During WWII, Mom was employed at D.D.O. and H.A.F.B. in Utah. She was employed at the Utah State Industrial School and retired in 1983 after 26 years of service.

She was an avid Jazz fan, never missing a game on TV. Everybody knew not to come and visit or call when the Jazz were playing. We knew she must be really sick because she wasn''t watching anymore.

Mom was always happy to see you no matter who you were. She always had a smile on her face and a joke on her lips.

Surviving are her three children, Verla (Doug) Standley, South Ogden; Crystal (Ray) Wright and Ted (Marolyn) Thomas, all of Washington Terrace. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Brady Standley, Kari Peck, Kami Blackburn, Dee Wright, Kelly Pearson, Cody Wright, Amy Barney, Todd Thomas and Tara Thomas, and 19 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

She is also survived by her brothers, Kenneth (Shirley) Buckway, Ogden; and George Buckway, California; and her childhood friend Helen Jones.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willis and son Billy, her parents, five sisters, four brothers, and one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Thomas.

We wish to express our appreciation to all who contributed to her quality of life in these last months.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
