Joshua Scott Hurst

September 9, 1978 — January 16, 2024

Roy

It is with our deepest sorrows and much love that we mourn the passing of Josh, of Roy, Utah on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the age of 45.

Josh was born September 9, 1978, in Layton, Utah to Cindy Bowden and Scott Hurst.

He attended Northridge High School where he thrived in football and made many friends, some lifelong. His brother, Kevin, was his best friend and the bond they shared would carry on throughout his life. He also had two sisters who he adored and protected. His siblings were his world and the relationship they had was truly special. Josh and his mom, Cindy, had an unbreakable relationship throughout his entire life, she was his person, and he was hers. Josh got his big heart and kind soul from his mom, her love for him was unconditional and she was always there to support him in any way possible. Josh lost his dad at the young age of 16, but he had a wonderful stepdad, Dee, who helped to raise him from the age of five.  Dee was an amazing father figure for the remainder of his life.

Josh married Brooke Nowotny in 1998 and they had two beautiful sons, Alexander and Andrew, who were his pride and joy. Josh was a very hands-on Dad, he coached both boys in their sports, taught them how to work on cars and motorcycles, but most of all he was always present and made sure the boys knew they were loved. He shared his passions with his boys which largely influenced them both and has impacted the goals they have for their futures. Through his marriage he also gained many more siblings and family who he loved and treated as his own. Still to this day they refer to him as their brother and he did the same. Josh started his own fencing business and later went back to school to get his EMT certificate to become a firefighter. He volunteered at Sunset Fire Department for some time, and he truly loved that job. Josh and Brooke later divorced, but they remained close friends and amazing co-parents.

Josh was a friend to all he met, he was the kind of man who would literally give you the shirt off his back and never expect anything in return. Josh made such an impact on many people throughout his life, and you were truly lucky to have known him. Josh’s love for motorcycles eventually led him to join Undefined Limits Motorcycle Club where he met and made more lifelong friends, whom he referred to as family.

Josh is survived by his two children Alex and Andrew, his mom, Cindy (Jeff), his brother, Kevin (Riki), sisters, Karri (Eric) and Josie (David) as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a grandparent.

He is preceded in death by his father, Scott, Grandma and Grandpa Hurst, and Grandma and Grandpa Bowden.  The family extends a heartfelt thank you for the overwhelming love and support received during this difficult time.

The family would also encourage anyone struggling with life challenges to seek help from a trusted friend or professional. Please call 988 if you feel you may be lost. You are not alone and there is help available for you.
