Josie “Colleen” King Jones
Colleen the sweetest and most beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by her family May 30, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was born April 14, 1941 in Shelley, Idaho to Larry and Josie King. Her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she grew up and graduated from West High School.
She met the love of her life David Jones in the Wasatch Springs swimming pool when she was 14 years old. They were married July 15, 1961 and were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple January 30, 1968. Together they had two daughters.
Colleen was an active member of the LDS Church where she served in many leadership positions. Dave and Colleen served in the Iowa Des Moines Mission July 2006 ~ July 2007. Colleen enjoyed her mission very much and loved being around the Young Elders and Sisters. She was sad to see it come to an end so they served another three years as Hosts that took people on tours at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.
She enjoyed spending time with her family who were her greatest pride and joy in her life. She spent many hours crocheting afghans and making blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and studying the Gospel.
Colleen is survived by her husband of 52 years and their daughters; Karen (Mark) McGovern and Denise Eaves, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five brothers and sisters. Preceded in death by her parents, one brother and son-in-law.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton. Friends may visit with family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.
