Joyce Timothy Miller Ashby

1936 ~ 2019

Joyce Timothy Miller Ashby, 82, was born February 25, 1936 in Roosevelt, Utah to Weston and Mary Jane King Timothy.  She passed away January 2, 2019 at Chancellor Gardens in Clearfield, Utah.  She married Waldo L. Miller July 17, 1953, he preceded her in death.  She later married Francis Eugene Ashby April 10, 1995 who also preceded her in death.

Mom moved to Kaysville, Utah at an early age and loved growing up there.  She spoke often of her childhood playing with friends and cousins alike.  She played in the cemetery which must be the reason for her love of Halloween.  She picked cherries for spending money and enjoyed those years so much.

Mom married Waldo and made their home in East Layton for 42 years until the mud slide of 1984 took away her home that she raised her six children in.  She loved that little home and worked very hard to make it a wonderful place to be.

She was a stay-at-home mother until 1978 when she trained to be a certified nurse’s assistant.  She enjoyed her job and patients while she worked at Davis Hospital.

Joyce was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She spoke often of having a testimony of the truthfulness of the Gospel.  Her favorite calling was Young Women’s secretary.  She also enjoyed being a visiting teacher.

She was a talented artist.  She oil painted beautiful mountain scenes.  She loved creating porcelain, china and ceramic works of art and created many wonderful items.  She created many dolls of all kinds and was an amazing seamstress and enjoyed needlepoint throughout her life.  She made beautiful lampshades also.

In the early 1960’s her and her brothers LaMar and Laddie and their parents joined efforts and built a cabin in the high Uintah’s.  To this day us kids love to go and visit the Timothy cabin.

Mom loved animals of all kinds and never was without a dog or two and usually even more cats and even chickens.

She is survived by two sons and four daughters; Shelly Denece (Mike) Adams, Kelly (Sue) Miller, Scott Miller, , Heidi (Steve) Ashdown, Holly (Troy) Opheikens, Laurie Jill (James) Fisher; step-daughter Darinda Strong, 35 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and many great-great –grandchildren and counting.  She was preceded in death by her husband Francis, a great-grandson Stetzon Steve Stokes and Colby James Holden.  Her brothers Laddie Timothy and LaMar Timothy.
