Joyce Barber Gailey

January 28, 1933 — September 15, 2024

Joyce Barber Gailey, born on January 28, 1933, she is the daughter of Benjamin Wallace Barber and Ethel Malinda Briggs. She departed this life on September 15, 2024.

She was a lifelong resident of Syracuse, and a proud graduate of Davis High School, class of 1952. Joyce embraced her education and carried its lessons throughout her life.

She married her sweetheart Verge Henry Gailey on May 19, 1955, in the Salt Lake City Temple. She leaves behind her loving family that includes her daughters, Jerry (Cecil) Casper, DeAnn (Steve) Sartor, Debbie Dodge, and Pam (Dave) Conrad; and her sons, Monte W. Gailey and Douglas (Mindy) Gailey. Joyce is also survived by her 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, who will forever carry her legacy in their hearts.

She thrived in a variety of interests, especially loving to crochet and quilt baby bibs and blankets for the children within her family and community showcasing her gentle spirit and desire to nurture those around her. In addition to her crafting, Joyce had a deep-seated appreciation for the great outdoors, enjoying camping trips that allowed her to connect with nature and her loved ones. Joyce was an enthusiastic fan of hockey, particularly the Utah Grizzlies, and her spirited support for the sport was a testament to her lively personality. Perhaps most cherished were the moments she spent with her family—these bonds formed the foundation of her life. Known for her lively indulgence of "coke runs" at 11 in the morning, Joyce brought joy and laughter into her home.

She lived a vibrant life, marked by her devoted service to her faith, love for family, and a passion for creative hobbies. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Joyce held several callings within the Relief Society and Primary, reflecting her commitment to nurturing both children and adults in her community. She also served many years with the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers.

Her life was one of service, love, and joy, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to inspire those she leaves behind, reminding them of the importance of family, faith, and the joy found in simple pleasures.
