Joyce W. Van Dyke

Joyce Williams Van Dyke 1920-2008 SALT LAKE CITY - Joyce W. Van Dyke, age 88, said good-bye to her family, for a season, on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 in Salt Lake City, Utah prior to her death from complications of Huntington''s disease.

Born January 31, 1920 in Ogden, Utah, she was the daughter of Glenwood C. Williams and Kate P. Spackman. She attended schools in Salt Lake and Ogden, and graduated from Ogden High in 1937.

On August 2, 1938, she married E. Russell Van Dyke in the Logan LDS Temple, and shortly thereafter moved to San Francisco, CA while Dad attended Dental School at the University of California until 1942. After graduation, the U.S. Army needed Dad overseas so Mom lived in Ogden alone with the help and support of Russ'' parents and many dear friends. She stayed busy knitting, painting their house, and caring for their first son Tommy.

Following the War, they established their home again in Ogden where Dad began his dental practice and they were blessed with four more children. In 1953 Mom and Dad moved their young family to Seattle, WA for two years so that Dad could specialize in Orthodontics. They spent the remainder of their lives raising their family in Ogden. In 1960 they purchased a farm in Liberty, UT where they spent many summers. Mom loved working to restore and decorate the farm house and developed a genuine love of preserving part of the past. The farm was a wonderful gathering place for her family and friends, especially her 23 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

She was an excellent bridge player and bowler and cherished her lifelong friendships with the women in her bridge club. She contributed to her community through her service to the Weber County Heritage Foundation, Junior League, Weber Dental Auxiliary. The Chareya Club and Questers were a source of great enjoyment.

Mom served faithfully in many callings in the LDS Church. Her family brought her the greatest joy and fulfillment.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, E. Russell Van Dyke, children, Thomas R. Van Dyke(Annette),Farr West; Scott E. Van Dyke (Geniel), South Ogden; Miriam(Mimi) Noel(Wm Curtis), Salt Lake City; Leigh C. Van Dyke(Barbara), Kaysville; Edmund W. Van Dyke(Michelle), Smithfield; and one brother, Glen Williams, Ogden.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Faye Chase.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with Bishop Nate Pierce officiating.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
