Joyce Ines Leavitt Gailey, 87, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018 at McKay Dee Hospital. She was born on August 26, 1930 in Rexburg, ID, the daughter of Israel Vernon and Ines Morris Leavitt. Joyce attended Ogden High School and met her sweetheart, Lyle F. Gailey, while working at a hamburger stand. After that they were inseparable. They courted and were married in Ogden on June 10, 1948.
She worked later at the cannery, for Fram Oil, Marquardt, and eventually for Defense Depot of Ogden in logistics where she retired in 1974.
Joyce loved making felt Christmas stockings for everyone, including her extended family and friends. She was even currently working on a project at the time of her death. She also made beautiful handmade quilts for everyone. Family was everything to her.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Venna (Bob) Warlaumont, Ogden; son, Kurt (Gayle) Gailey, Ogden; 6 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Renee Stoddard, Ashton, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Tamara; and her husband, Lyle of 67 years, and by her siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
The family thanks the 3rd floor staff at McKay Dee Hospital, Dr. Holland and Dr. Sutherland, and their staff for their compassionate care.
