Joyce Gunderson

June 27, 1941 — September 15, 2021

Joyce Forbes Gunderson

Our beloved Joyce “Gundy” Forbes Gunderson peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at her home surrounded by loved ones.

Joyce was born on June 27, 1941, in Ogden, Utah to her loving parents Elmer Joseph Forbes and Ila Ada Flint. She was raised in Layton, Utah. Joyce attended Davis High School. She later married Donald Duane Gunderson on November 28, 1959, in Elko, Nevada.

Through the military, Don and Joyce were able to travel the world and develop lifelong friendships. One of her favorite places to live was Hawaii.  Don and Joyce had two children, Donna Lee Gunderson (Rampton) and Daniel Duane Gunderson.

Joyce was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She lived a life of service. One of her passions in life was coaching basketball and volleyball. She was a great influence on many women. Her players all knew her as “Gundy”. Joyce was an active member of The Daughters of Utah Pioneers and was proud of her heritage.

She was a perfect example of love, humor, and hard work.  Joyce had many wonderful qualities; she was strong, determined, independent, and some might even say slightly stubborn. Joyce was continuously looking for ways to serve others. She wanted to make a positive impact in their lives. She lived a life of simplicity and always enjoyed giving more than receiving. Joyce was the life of every party. She was quick witted and not afraid to ask personal questions.

There is no doubt that Joyce loved being at her family farm. She enjoyed caring for her chickens, goats, and horses. She had passion for gardening and cooking. Sunday was her favorite day because she knew her grandchildren and her great grandchildren were coming over for family dinner. She was always involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She never missed the opportunity to support them no matter the occasion.

Joyce is survived by her sister JoAnn Pollett of Layton, UT, two children Donna (Curtis) Rampton of Reno, NV, Daniel (Cathy) Gunderson of Syracuse, UT, seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband Donald D Gunderson, her parents Elmer and Ila Forbes, her two sisters and brother, Blanch Kirk, Erma Adams, and Junior Forbes.

The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Utah Hematology and Oncology, a special thank you to Dr. Carl Gray. The family would also like to thank Taelor Echeverria and Mia Sevy from Tender Care for the love and support they have shown their sweet mother and grandmother over the past several weeks.
