BOUNTIFUL, UTAH Joyce Wilson (Bolt) Hales, 82, passed away peacefully Thursday morning, December 11, 2008, at the Life Care Center of Bountiful, UT. Joyce recently moved from the Ft. Hudson Nursing Center in Ft. Edward, NY. Prior to that she lived in Queensbury, NY for sixteen years.

She was born on March 28, 1926 in New York City, NY, the only child of John Grieve Bolt and Anna Jane Wilson.

Joyce grew up in Great Neck, NY, a happy child and a joy to her parents. She graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor''s of Science and later earned a Master''s of Education from New York University. She taught home economics in Suffern, NY for two years and then for the Great Neck New York School District for 34 years.

She met her husband, Gerald Rulon Hales, while in grade school playing marbles. Their friendship blossomed through the years and they were married in 1950. Joyce was an exceptional seamstress, making most of her own clothing. She also enjoyed handwork like knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. A favorite summer place was Loon Lake in the Adirondacks, and she equally enjoyed the winters in Vero Beach, FL. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and often rendered service to others in need through her generosity and compassion.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jerry, who passed away in 1990 and her twin great-grandchildren, Ryan and Reagan Hales.

Joyce is survived by her older son John Stephen Hales and his wife, Linda, of Queensbury, NY; grandchildren, Trevor Hales and his wife, April, of Syracuse, UT, Melanie Hales of San Diego, CA, Stuart Hales of Logan, UT, and Kimberley Rogers and her husband, Christian, of Murray, UT; three great-grandchildren, Brooklynn, Brendan, and Lauren Hales; her younger son James Rulon Hales, and his wife, Julie, of North Salt Lake, UT and grandchildren, Paul Hales of North Salt Lake, UT, Michelle Hales of New York City, NY, Jaclyn Hales of Orem, UT, Danielle Hales of Provo, UT, and Andrew Hales of Orem, UT.

The family sincerely appreciates the employees of Ft. Hudson and the Life Care Center for their kind and gentle care of Joyce.

Friends and family are invited to join together for visitation at Lindquist''s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E, Bountiful Utah 5:30-7 pm Thursday, December 18 or 10:00-10:30 am Friday, December 19, 2008.
