Joyce Johnson
June 21, 1947 ~ October 11, 2014
After relentlessly battling Parkinson’s disease for nearly 8 years, Joyce Johnson passed away on October 11, 2014. Joyce was born on June 21, 1947 to Percy E. and Velma Capson Jones. She grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ben Lomond High School. She met the love of her life, Dale C. Johnson, on a blind date on August 21, 1966 and they were married three months later on November 25th. Together, they had four sons, “her babies”, which she adored so much that today each claims to be her favorite.
Throughout her life she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed many opportunities to serve those around her. She had an endearing testimony and loved her Savior very much. She worked at Ogden Regional Medical Center for 25 years in the billing department, eventually becoming the director. She appreciated the many friendships that she developed over the years. She was very saddened when the disease made it impossible for her to work and forced her into an early retirement.
Family was the most important thing to her and she was the biggest fan of every member of the family. No matter the occasion, she wanted to be part of it and lend support. She loved having the family together for holiday gatherings and summer barbecues. Decorating and organizing were some of her favorite past times and she was always looking for new ways of efficiency. She had a love for chocolate and cookies and had a large stash of them in her closet that had many visits from her grandchildren.
She was a woman of grace and elegance. She relished in having her hair and nails done and looking as lovely as she could, right up to the end. She had an amazing sense of humor and was full of wit, and vowed to “never, ever give up.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Russell Whitaker, Dick Whitaker, Ren Jones, sisters Barbara Cummings and Lenore Wilson, sister-in-law Jan Whitaker, and twin grandsons Caysen and Gage.
Surviving is her husband Dale of Roy, sister Barbara DeVault of Arizona, four sons: Dustin (Melinda) of Syracuse, Ryan of Napa California, Cody (Wendi) of Hooper, and David (Sheri) of Layton, four grandsons, and five granddaughters. She also leaves behind many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and her little Yorkshire Terrier Bear.
The family would like to thank her physicians, hospice, the Roy 4th Ward, and all the many loved ones that touched her life.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Roy 4 th Ward, 5301 South 2100 West. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church.
