Joyce McBride

Joyce Farnsworth McBride of Clearfield, Utah, passed away from cancer on September 4, 2018.  She was born on March 11, 1934, in Rexburg, Idaho, the eldest of six children born to G. Kent and Mary Heath Farnsworth.  Her love of animals began at an early age and one of her childhood memories was watching the race horses that her father trained.  After a thrilling race, her father would put her on the champion horse, as he would walk the horse to cool it down.

The family moved to Boise, Idaho, when Joyce was seven years old.  In elementary school, she entered the contest sponsored by the Capital News Newspaper to honor “Idaho’s Typical Father of the Year”.  Joyce immediately knew that she had the Best Father in the whole world.  She submitted her letter to the contest.  Her Father won – Voted “Idaho’s Typical Father of the Year”.  He was awarded many gifts, honored at receptions and photos published in the Capital News.

She attended Boise schools, graduating from Boise High School.  Joyce attended Brigham Young University, followed by her marriage to Davis Owen McBride in the Salt Lake City Temple.  They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in May of this year.  Joyce worked for the City of Clearfield and in the Mayor’s Office for 21 years, followed by serving a mission with her husband in the Utah Ogden Mission for two years.

Joyce has always been very artistic and creative.  She is an expert seamstress and gifted in crocheting and knitting.  She has knitted beautiful and cherished gifts.  She has made baby quilts for each one of her grandchildren as well as her great-grandchildren.  Each grandchild has received their own personal afghan.

Music has always been a vital part of her life.  Joyce loved music and she sang with the musical group, Melodaires, performing concerts throughout the Idaho valley.  She exhibited her dancing talents in her teenage years as well as doing Ballroom Dancing and Square Dancing with her husband, Davis, participating in many performances and exhibitions.

Joyce is also an expert pianist and organist.  She has always given service at every level.  Her church service began in her teenage years and devoted church service has been most essential to her throughout her life.  She has consistently served with dedicated service in every auxiliary.

Joyce loved being a mother to her five children and grandmother to 19, great-grandmother to 27.  Her family was of paramount importance to her.  She demonstrated that there is nothing more constant than a mother’s love.  Joyce is survived by her husband, Davis, her five children, Bonnie (Dave Ruesch), Brent (Jackie), Merry Rhoades, Curtis, and Todd.  In addition, she is survived by 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, two sisters and three brothers.  She was preceded in death by her parents.
