Joyce Loveland Read

August 22, 1939 — February 8, 2023

West Point

Joyce Loveland Read, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and devoted friend, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, surrounded by members of her large loving family. She was born on August 22, 1939, in West Point, Utah to Kenneth LeRoy and Emerald Holt Loveland, the second of three daughters. She married Ray Austin Read in the Salt Lake Temple on June 24, 1957, and they provided a loving home to their eight children in West Point. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Joyce was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, had a strong testimony of and a deep relationship with the Savior, Jesus Christ. Throughout her life, she had the opportunity to serve in many church callings, which included serving with Ray as senior couple missionaries in Minnesota and another mission in Michigan. They also enjoyed serving for many years in the Ogden Temple. Although she experienced dementia in her later years, she continued to enjoy her family and was always grateful and positive despite her illness. Her love for the Savior and testimony of the Savior’s teachings never wavered. She continued to be grateful and strived to be happy; she endured to the end! Joyce’s immeasurable influence for good will leave a lasting legacy among those whose lives she touched, as she tirelessly served others throughout her life.

Joyce was employed with and retired from Davis School District which included many years at Pioneer Adult Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield as an Administrative Assistant to the Director. For many years, as a mother of young children, she taught piano lessons to countless youth from West Point and surrounding areas. Joyce was never afraid of hard work and gave her children and grandchildren the gift of having a strong work ethic. She enjoyed planning and cooking for family gatherings and holidays, where she created a comfortable and welcoming family home and traditions. She loved sunsets, music, singing, and could often be found in her garden surrounded by her favorite flowers.

One of Joyce’s greatest desires was to be a mother and raise her children to exemplify Christ’s attributes. She sacrificed much for her children, and they were her most precious possession. She is survived by her loving husband, Ray, who has been the love of her life, and her eight children: Jill and David Pickup, Keith and Sally Read, Kirk and Marti Read, Cindy and Steven Smith, Ann and Tony Dato, Neil and Callee Read, Craig and Kimberly Read, and Alane Read; 30 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and a sister, Gayle Haacke.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Birdean Evensen; two grandchildren, Brooklyn Pickup and Brittney Marie Read; and two great-grandchildren, Declan Craig Read and Cade Ryan Pickup.
