Joyce Ann Davies Summers
Joyce Ann Davies Summers, 9/17/07 died in her home with her family by her bedside after a courageous battle with renal cell carcinoma. She was born at Holy Cross hospital on 6/14/63 to Fredrick Arthur Davies and LaRae Day (Seifert).
She grew up in West Point, Utah where she was educated and later attended Clearfield High School. At Clearfield she participated in volleyball, gymnastics, track, and was a member of the cheerleading squad. She graduated fourteenth in her class and went on to continue her education at Weber State University. She graduated in nursing with a 4.0 grade point average and High Honors and was named the recipient of the "Outstanding Clinician Award". She went on to further her education at the University of Utah where she obtained her Master of Science degree in nursing.
She started her career at McKay Dee Hospital working in various departments from Intermediate Care, the ICU, working with the late Dr. Glen Church as his surgical nurse and then working with her many friends and colleagues in the surgical dept.
She has lived the last 14 years in Layton where she has enjoyed raising her 4 boys. She holds close to her heart the relationships that she has with each of them. She has always been proud of their accomplishments and has been there to support their efforts in what ever way she could. She has grown to love and appreciate the many friends that she has developed throughout the years. She has always appreciated the time and effort of those individuals who have been there to help during this period. Whether running her to a doctor''s appointment, getting her blood drawn, or just calling on the phone or coming over to say "HI". She will always be grateful. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Valley View Ward. She held various positions in the Church that included service in the Young Women''s Presidency, Primary Presidency, Cub Scouts, and involvement with the Young Adults. She also earned the rank of Eagle Scout four times over with the aid of all four of her boys.
She is survived by her husband Douglas Farr Summers, her son J. James Summers, daughter-in-law Jennifer Dawn Sacco, and her prized granddaughter Averi Jo. Son Michael Douglas, son Mathew Davies, son Christopher Farr. Mother LaRae Day Seifert, West Point Utah; father Frederick Arthur Davies, Pocatello Idaho; brother Richard Arthur Davies, Redmond, Washington; mother-in-law Joyce Summers, Clinton Utah; grandmother-in-law Inez Cazier Farr, Taylor Utah; sister-in-law Julie and JayDee Horne and children Chad, Staci, Brooke, and Kelsi, Layton Utah; sister-in-law Jana and Gary Moore and children Meradyth, Melysa, Nathan, and Megann, Farmington Utah.
She was preceded in death by step father Karl Seifert, and father-in-law James D. Summers.
She enjoyed snow and water skiing, golf, traveling abroad, the company of friends, and living for her family. She will always treasure time spent with family and friends vacationing at Lake Powell where memories were forged that will last forever.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Valley View Rock Chapel, 2475 North Valley View Drive, Layton. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Thursday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the church.
Joyce and the family would like to sincerely thank all those who have provided for her and her family''s care throughout this entire battle. Whether it was providing professional care by her many doctors and nurses or by those many friends and acquaintances who provided for her needs. Joyce and her family will always be greatly indebted and truly grateful.
