Joyce Jones Tippets, 84, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at McKay-Dee Hospital.
She was born April 5, 1928 in Ogden, Utah to Wallace D. and Thelma Hogge Jones. She graduated from Ogden High School.
On December 4, 1946, Joyce married Joseph Tippets in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Joe preceded her in death November 25, 2009.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served as Relief Society Historian, Primary teacher and Sunday School teacher.
Her first job was at Swift Meat Packing Company where she was the first woman to wear men''s work jeans, paving the way for women''s jeans today. She worked for Union Pacific Railroad in the laundry. While at UPRR she also served as a Majorette and toured across the United States with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.
Joyce and Joe volunteered countless hours at the Senior Center and was recognized by President George W. Bush for their service.
She was dedicated mother and wife, raising six children.
Joyce is survived by five children, Roger (Diane) Tippets, Steven Tippets, Tim (Denise) Tippets, Jody (Hans) Vanderbeek, Linda (Bob) Chapman; daughter-in-law, Dixie Tippets; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joseph, one son, Michael and one sister, JoAnn Rees.
The family would like to sincerely thank the nurses and family members who helped care for Mom in her later years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 18th at 2 p.m. at Lindquist''s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.
The family will meet with friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at and Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Hooper Cemetery.
