Joye Stout Peterson

KAYSVILLE – Joye Stout Peterson completed her earthly mission and returned to her Heavenly Father on September 10, 2016 at age 94.

Joye was born on February 7, 1922 in Sutherland, Utah to Francis and Clara Stout.   a

Joye attended school in Salt Lake, and graduated from Granite High School in 1941, where she was the State Tennis Champion.

She worked at Hill Air Force Base during both World War II and the Vietnam War.  She was a real life “Rosie the Riveter.”

While carpooling to HAFB she met LaVar Peterson.  They were married on September 14, 1942.  Later they were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They lived in Salt Lake, and then later made their home in Kaysville.  They raised four children: Cheril (Jim) Clark, Ann (Ron) Craig, Judy (Val) Thompson, and Gene (Trudee) Peterson.  Joye has 22 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren and three great-great-granddaughters with another due in November.  She was preceded in death by her husband LaVar, daughter Cheril, granddaughters Susan Peterson and DanNel Davis, and her great-grandson Christopher Anderton.

She was a member of the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers, and the LDS Church.  She had a strong testimony of the Gospel.

Joye had many talents including sewing, crocheting, and playing the piano.  Joye loved playing Bingo, and always looked forward to the next game; usually winning a few of them.  She was a sports fan and loved rooting for an underdog, favoring the Denver Broncos and the Utah Jazz.

Joye was an inspiration to those around her and will be greatly missed, especially by her friend Judy.  The family would like to thank her hospice nurse, and the staff at Fairfield Village.
