LAYTON - Juan Leon Guerrero Baza, 73, died quietly on Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City after undergoing a stroke. He was born on May 25, 1934, in Agana, Guam, the son of Manuel Baza and Maria Leon Guerrero. He married Margarita Toves on November 5, 1955 in Toto, Guam, who has been his devoted spouse until his death.

Juan joined the U.S. Air Force as a young man in Guam, serving 20 years as an Air Force firefighter. He was a veteran of both Korean and Vietnam conflicts. After his Air Force retirement, he served an additional seven years as a civil service firefighter for the Air Force. After suffering an episode of cancer, Juan left civil service and began working as a grounds custodian for Fairfield Condominiums in Kaysville, Utah until he retired in 1995.

Juan loved his life in Utah and enjoyed his hobbies of gardening, fishing, camping, and spending time with his wife, sons, and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Margarita, sons, John (Darlene) Baza and Mike Baza, three grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Maria, two sisters Isabel Kerwin, Anna Dela Cruz, and brother Jose Baza. He has six surviving brothers and sisters, Rosario Diaz, Francisco Baza, Jesus Baza, Margarita Torre, David Baza and Rudy Baza.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 9 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 South Chapel Street, Layton, Monsignor Victor Bonnell officiating. Friends and family may call Friday from 6to 7:30 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road where military honors will be accorded by Hill Air Force Base Honor Guard.
