Juan Andres Martinez
Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, Juan Andres Martinez, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2009, at McKay Dee Hospital.
He was born March 20, 1926, in Rio de Chama, New Mexico to Juan Antonio Martinez and Bernardita Gallegos. He married Utilia Irene Herrera on November 11, 1953.
Juan was a Private First Class part of the 1108th Engineer Combat Group for the Army of the United States. On February 6, 1945 he was wounded at sea when the SS Peter Silvester ship was torpedoed in World War II and was rescued after 10 days. He received an Honorable Discharge on April 14, 1946 and also a Purple Heart Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Theater Good Conduct Medal.
Juan is survived by his seven children; Judy (Arturo) Romero, Andy Martinez, Lillian (Rick) Ortega, Geraldine Byrum, Jeff (Kathy) Martinez, Cindy (Frank) Guzman, Eva (Angel) Santos. His siblings Julio Martinez, Lucia Martinez, Utillia Martinez. His 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren also survive him.
His wife and parents and 7 siblings precede him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 11 am at St. Joseph''s Church, 514 24th St, Ogden. Friends and family may call Thursday July 16, 2009, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary 1867 North Fairfield Road, with Rosary services starting at 7 pm.
Interment, Lindquist''s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, Ogden.
