Judith Lynn Dallof Kendall
June 29, 1945 ~ March 4, 2018
Judith Lynn Dallof Kendall returned peacefully to her Heavenly Father on Sunday, March 4, 2018, after courageously facing various health challenges. Judy was and still is a devoted daughter, wonderful wife, marvelous mother, glorious grandmother, and superb sister!
Judy was born on June 29, 1945 in Ogden, Utah to Gerald William Dallof and Elizabeth Jennie Masters. She attended schools in Ogden City School District, graduating from Ogden High School in 1963. Four years later, she graduated with a degree in elementary education from Weber State College. She was the first in her family to attend college. Judy greatly valued education and learning, but she had to exercise great courage just to go to school on many days. Her example of facing this challenge has helped her children and grandchildren do the same.
Shortly after graduating from college, Judy married George Dean Kendall on July 20, 1967 in the Logan LDS Temple. They set off on life together, living in small apartments and working hard. Eventually, they built their forever house in North Ogden. Judy and Dean celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2017.
Beginning in high school and continuing through college, Judy worked at the Ogden Carnegie Free Library. After graduating from college, she taught elementary school for nearly seven years within the Ogden City School District. She worked hard to teach each of her students; however, her focus each day was to love each of them and provide them a safe environment while at school. Years later, students would come up to her in the grocery store or other public places to share a special memory they had of her.
Judy set her career aside when she and Dean welcomed their daughter Katie into this world, and she never looked back. A few years later, Judy and Dean welcomed Michael into this world. Judy cherished her two children. They, along with Dean, were and still are the love of her life. She demonstrated this love through her devoted and tireless involvement in their lives. She emphasized the importance of education and instilled in them a love for reading. She also emphasized the importance of making memories and made them happen, including playing at parks, swimming, eating at local restaurants, playing ball on the driveway and in the backyard, night games and much, much more. In fact, despite her apprehensions regarding driving, and particularly driving in inclement weather, she acted as chauffeur for Katie, Mike, and their friends, taking them to countless musical, athletic, and other events throughout Utah and neighboring states. Judy is a legendary team football mom still known today by many as the Gatorade mom. Judy, you are truly the wind beneath our wings!
After having and nurturing her children, Judy returned to work at the library—now the Weber County Library System. She worked in just about every job there, eventually retiring after two plus decades. She especially enjoyed children’s programming – like summer reading programs, and helping all the North Ogden Junior High students find books for their Constitutional reports. She always joked that we could just bury her in a box under her desk at the library. She talked often of those she worked with over the years, sharing fond memories.
Towards the twilight of her life, Judy turned her attention to welcoming 6 grandchildren. She crocheted blankets for “the grands”, tended them, bought them countless presents, prized their artwork, and loved them. She facilitated many happy memories for the grands as well, especially enjoying annual family trips to the Homestead and Seattle area – where she enjoyed her old favorite pastime of swimming.
For more than fifteen years, Judy acted as a second mother and grandmother to her little spirits in nursery. She magnified this calling by praying for and serving her little ones and the brothers and sisters she served with in nursery. She made quiet books, sang songs, reenacted the pioneers gathering around a campfire, cleaned toys, made creative bulletin boards and flannel board stories, and most importantly, helped the children feel the Savior’s love at church through her love for them. Judy also served in many other church callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life in the Relief Society, Primary, and Sunday School organizations. She prized the relationships of those she served with and taught.
In the twilight of her life, Judy continued to enjoy two hobbies that she regularly engaged in throughout her life—reading and crocheting. Similar to the mail, books continued to flow in from every direction and, except for a select few, Judy ensured that she turned and read each and every page. Almost as fast as the books came in, Judy crocheted afghans, hats, and other inspired creations and distributed them to family, friends, and others in need. She also sent many happy emails and letters to friends and family. Our inboxes were never empty.
Judy is survived by her husband, Dean; two children, Katie (Phil) Hudman and Michael (Stephanie) Kendall; six grandchildren, Samantha, Nathan, Lincoln, Lizzie, Clayton, and Emily; her brother, David Dallof; and many dearly loved cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
Judy, thank you for all of the magnificent memories! We love you, and we look forward to making many more memories with you!
