Judith Lee Kunkel
LAYTON – Judith Lee Sparks Kunkel passed away Monday, June 25, 2007 at McKay-Dee Hospital from surgical complications resulting from cancer.
Judi was born on April 21, 1944, the second child of Rodger Franklin Sr., and Alice Martha Reeves Sparks. She was raised in South Ogden and graduated from Bonneville High School.
Judi faithfully served a mission to the Northwestern States Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Judi married her eternal companion, Jens Kunkel, on March 27, 1970 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in South Ogden for over 25 years and resided in Layton for nearly seven years.
Judi always enjoyed serving her church in many capacities. She served in two Relief Society Presidencies, Primary Presidency, Compassionate Service Leader twice, as well as holding positions in Young Women’s and Scouting.
Judi was a wonderful cook and thoroughly enjoyed cooking. She also loved to read, and enjoyed sewing, embroidering and cross-stitch.
She is survived by her husband, Jens, of 37 years, her children, Jena Lee (Joseph) Gonzalez, Todd Franklin Kunkel, Holly Ann Kunkel, and Zachary Jens Kunkel; as well as four grandchildren; Joshua, Janessa, Adrian, and Isabelle. Judi is also survived by her older brother, Rodger Franklin Sparks, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
