Julian Reynard Lee, 93, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 as a result of natural causes.
Julian was born March 20, 1916 in Grady County, Georgia to William Albert and Mary Broome Lee. He was one of 13 hardworking children raised on the family''s tobacco and sugar cane farm. He lived in Grady County, Georgia until age 21, when he joined the U.S. Army. He valiantly served to protect our country for 20 years and quickly advanced to the office of captain. He served in both World War II and the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star for his leadership efforts. As a result of his military service, he lived in various places with his family, and was stationed in Puerto Rico, Korea, Japan, Alaska and Pueblo, Colorado. Following his retirement from the military he settled in Ogden, Utah and continued to dedicate 33 years of civil service, retiring from DDO as Property Disposal Officer.
Julian married Maryalice Richardson on April 28, 1941 in Tallahassee, Florida. Together they had three children, Roger, Terry and Sandra. They were married for 22 years until he lost his beloved wife to cancer in 1963. He later married Charlotte Anne Mattson in May of 1969. He lovingly helped raise and care for Charlotte''s four children, Debbie, Kim, Kris and Robyn. Charlotte later died in 2004.
Julian had a life-long passion for golf, gardening and staying extremely active. He had a work ethic that was second to none. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren succeed in academics and sports. Grandpa was always there for them, as proud as ever! He would always say, "I wouldn''t have missed it." a" and he truly meant it.
He was a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church in Thomasville, Georgia and The First Presbyterian Church in Ogden, Utah, where he served as both Deacon and Elder. He was very dedicated to his church and even served as unofficial groundskeeper as recent as this past summer.
Julian is survived by his brother, Delma (Marianne) Lee, Tallahassee, FL: his daughter, Sandra (Robert) LaRose and their six children, Bobby LaRose, Billy (Lindsey) LaRose, Becki (Trent) Porter, Ben (Cindy) LaRose, Mandi (Brandon) Platt and Angie (Tyler) Jones. He is also survived by Roger''s wife, Anne (Dean) Weise and their three sons, Jonathan (Heather) Lee, Nathan (DeAnna) Lee, and Matthew (Trisha) Lee as well as Terry''s only daughter, Julie Lee, and 33 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his step-children, Debra (Jim) Leatham, Kris (Pete) Creamer, Robin (Pat) Metcalf, and their children, Destini (Eric) Madsen, Desiree (Heath) Minear, Charlee Ann (Chuck) Creamer, Jodi (Steve) Bambrough and Dusti (Larry) Naito.
