Julie S. Massey

Julia S. Massey OGDEN – Julia Squires Massey, 96, passed way Friday, November 27, 2009 at Wasatch Care Center. Mom agreed to leave, but not for long. She was born April 14, 1913 in Archer, Idaho, to Laurence Calvin and Maude Wilcox Squires. She had six brothers. Julia graduated from Great Falls High School in 1931. She served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Northwest States Mission. She married Emery Nye Massey on November 17, 1943 in the Cardston, Alberta LDS Temple. They had one daughter, Cherie and one son, Kevin. Emery preceded her in death on January 2, 1996. Julia spent equal parts of her life in Montana, Utah and Arizona. She and Emery raised their family in Ogden. Their daughter Cherie and son Kevin live in Mesa, Arizona and Ogden, Utah respectively. She worked hard at several jobs and loved working at the Blind School, but was defined by her volumes of poetry and family histories. Julia loved her family, her church, the written word and people everywhere that she met. She traveled often and visited Nauvoo, Palmyra, and Canada in pursuit of her ancestors. She was fearless in her last years. It was an honor to travel in her company. Surviving are her children, Cherie and Kevin, and two brothers, Jack and Keith Squires, both of Spokane, WA. Preceding Julia in death were four brothers, Lyle, Merrill, Vivian and Boyd Squires. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. The family deeply thanks Wasatch Care Center and Vista Care Hospice for the loving care of our mother.
