June Hodson Beck

The independent spirit of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, step-mother/grandmother, aunt, and dear friend, June Hodson Beck, left this earth to join her eternal companion, Spencer G. Beck on Monday, November 19, 2007.

Born on July 5, 1923 to James Earl and Elsie Frodsham Hodson in Layton, Utah. June grew up on a working farm with her three younger siblings, Nola Wood, Jedediah R. Hobson, and J. Val Hodson, where they were taught strong traditional American work values. June attended schools in Layton and later graduated from Davis High School and the LDS Business College. She began her early employment career working with the First National Bank of Layton, Zion''s Bank in Salt Lake City, and the FAA.

As a member of the LDS Church, June served a rewarding mission in Boston, Massachusetts. She also served in various church callings and Relief Society over the years.

June married her sweetheart, Spencer G. Beck on October 18, 1956 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. June and Spence were the proud parents of Alice Camille, Carrie, Kimberly, Sylvia, Beverly, and Ron. They raised their family in Layton and enjoyed living next to the home where she was raised.

June was hardworking, determined, resolute, and preserving. She had an affinity for the business world, and spent much of her life marketing and selling quality products. She worked for Steven''s Skin Care Products for many years and was one of their best employees. Regardless of the day, June always had a smile on her face to greet her customers. Many knew her as the tenacious sample lady in the grocery store.

June was very health minded and spent many hours studying and attending nutrition classes. She appreciated gardening and canned food into her 80''s. She valued fresh produce, herbs, vitamins, minerals and a healthy life style. She was compassionate about others'' health and shared her knowledge freely to help others in need. Many lives were touched by her generosity and wisdom. If there was one song to describe her sweet, independent and fun loving spirit, Frank Sinatra''s "I Did It My Way," comes to mind.

June took great joy in her family and she will always be remembered as a great mom, a loving wife, caring aunt, sweet sister, compassionate grandmother, and enduring friend. She loved to socialize with her family and friends and traveled throughout the state to spend quality time with loved ones. June had many cherished friends and will always be remembered as a warm and kindred spirit.

She is survived by her son: Ron Beck, Salt Lake City; daughters: Carrie (Craig) Hadley, Greenville, Wisconsin; Kimberly (Harrison) Killian, Austin, Texas; Sylvia (Jim) Mathis, Salt Lake City; Beverly (Bruce) Jones, Turner, Oregon; sister Nola Wood, Kaysville; brother J. Val (Carol) Hodson, Fruit Heights; 22 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Spencer, daughter Alice Camille Beck, and brother Jedediah R. Hodson. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 26, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 No. Main Street. Friends and family may call Sunday, November 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 at the mortuary.

Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Road, Salt Lake City, Utah.
