NORTH OGDEN a€" June Nelson Jessop passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2010.

She was born September 13, 1922 to Charles LeRoy and Florence Georgina Burgess Nelson. She grew up in Smithfield, Utah and graduated from North Cache High School. Hard work was a part of daily life as she thinned sugar beets and worked in the fields alongside her brother and three sisters. However, life was not all work. She participated in social activities, including swapping dates with her twin sister, Janice.

During World War II, June moved to Ogden and did her part in the war effort working at Defense Depot Ogden. At the end of the war, she met William Howard Jessop at a dance. Following a seven-week courtship, they were married on January 17, 1946 in Smithfield. In 1956, they were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they had three children, Carolyn (Jim) Ward, Craig (Robyn) Jessop, and Richard (Sharla) Jessop.

June worked for many years for Z.C.M.I. Department Store where she developed relationships with many in the Ogden area who became her regular customers.

She and Howard enjoyed many trips into the mountains to fish lakes and streams or just to cook breakfast with friends and family. Family vacations were spent camping and boating, particularly at Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

June was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She spent many years in service to her God and fellow man serving in the Primary organization as a teacher and president. She also worked with boys in the Cub Scouts and was Relief Society president twice. Family history work was a passion, and June immersed herself in researching family names and writing family histories. She spent hundreds of hours compiling picture journals for herself and her posterity. June and Howard served in the Singapore/India Mission where they learned to love the people of New Delhi, India. They continued to correspond with those they taught and influenced there for many years.

All who met her loved June. Her legacy of giving and serving will be remembered for years to come and emulated by those she influenced and loved.

June is survived by her children, eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Phyllis (Jack) Alsop, Janice Hanson, and Dorothy Burrows.

Her husband, Howard, her brother, Paul Nelson, and a grandson, Cortney Ward, preceded her in death.

The family expresses appreciation to Wasatch Care Center, Peachtree Place, and Rocky Mountain Hospice for their kindness and loving care.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
