June Harrison Manning

May 9, 1914 ~ May 21, 2014

June Harrison Manning passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the age of 100.  She was born on May 9, 1914 in Salt Lake City, to Catherine Jensen and William Henry Harrison.  June married Truman L. Manning on July 17, 1943 and they celebrated 58 years together, living in Nampa, Idaho, and Ogden.

June was active in a number of sports such as swimming, skiing, golf, and hiking, having twice hiked the Grand Canyon with Truman.  She was also involved in a number of community organizations.  In Nampa, she was a Pink Lady, a member of Century Club, and President of the local League of Women Voters.  In Ogden, June was President of the Ogden Jaycettes, President of the Ladies Association at Elmonte Golf Course, a member of the Birthday Club, and a founder and first President of Chareya Club.

June and Truman enjoyed traveling, especially their trips to Hawaii and Puerto Rico.  They also drove to eastern Canada twenty-one times to visit with their children and grandchildren.  June enjoyed decorating, sewing, entertaining, and had a flair for fashion.  June loved life, with all its offerings, and she remained grateful for her many blessings. On her 100 th birthday, a goal she set for herself, she thanked her family and friends for helping to make her long journey such a full and pleasant one.

June is survived by her son, Dennis; her daughter, Lori (John) Roberts; and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher.  Her husband, Truman; her brother, William Harrison; and her sister, May Wood, preceded her in death.

The family would like to thank everyone who recently helped June celebrate her 100 th birthday.  They also wish to give special thanks to the many caring people of Hospice and Mountain Ridge Assisted Living.  Your care and love for June, and your support for us, will always be remembered.

From June’s recorded wishes and requests:  “There will be no formal services, just a prayer for a safe journey to wherever.”

“Do not stand at my grave and weep:

I am not there.  I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning’s hush

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circled flight

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry;

I am not there.  I did not die.”
