PLEASANT VIEW-Karen passed away on June 11, 2023 from complications with heart failure, surrounded by her family. Karen was born July 12, 1939 in Ogden, Utah to William and Carmen Gibbs. She was educated in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School.
She married Dean Alma Hill on May 1, 1957 in the SLC LDS Temple and were married for 53 years. In 2011 Dean passed away. Karen married Kent Oborn in 2017. They were married for six years.
Karen has been an active member of the Ogden community her whole life. She was involved in Military Affairs, Women in Business, Spikers, and the Ogden Chamber. She has also provided service through the YCC. Karen has made hundreds of blankets for friends and people in need. She has also received many awards for her hard work and service to the community.
She has been involved in the restaurant business for many years. Dean and Karen opened the Pioneer Cafe and the Prairie Schooner Steakhouse. Then, in 1985 Karen and Dean opened the Timbermine Steakhouse with their friends Carl and Pat Jorgensen. The restaurant is still going strong 37 years later.
Karen had so many special people who were a big part of her life. She has loved many great employees, customers, and friends. Her loved ones and family were the light of her life.
Karen loved to go shopping, play golf, travel, and spend time with her family. She took her family on many fun adventures and taught them how to work hard.
Karen is survived by her husband, Kent Oborn; 4 children, Kathy Eastman (Irlene), Linda Tanner (Roy), Mike Hill (Deanna), and Julie Roylance (Doug); 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank the staff at Ogden Regional ICU for the excellent care Karen received.
We would also like to thank all of the wonderful and loving employees at the Timbermine Steakhouse who have loved and supported Karen and the family through this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
Karen loved the color red, in her memory please wear something red to the services.
