Karen Marie Shaw Weaver Kartchner 1937 ~ 2008

OGDEN a€" On Wednesday, December 10, 2008, our dear mother, wife, grandmother and great friend to all, joined a celebration in Heaven following a long, hard battle with cancer.

Born to Darrell Elmer Shaw and Lois Jones Shaw Riggs on November 16, 1937 in Ogden, Karen attended Ogden and Davis High Schools.

She married Mark J. Weaver on November 18, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married 26 years and later divorced. On May 28, 1983 she married Nolan J. Kartchner in Layton. Karen and Nolan enjoyed spending time together fishing, traveling and being best friends.

Following her retirement from Hill Air Force Base, she couldn''t sit still so she volunteered at Ogden Regional Medical Center, and worked as a waitress in West Yellowstone loving every minute of it. In her spare time, she could be found at the local grocery stores doing demonstrations.

Christmas wasn''t Christmas without Mom''s 600 advent calendars for children where proceeds would go to the Washington Terrace Care Center or Women''s and Children''s Care Center of Ogden. Thanksgiving will never be the same without Mom and playing spoons. Our Mom never missed sending a birthday card to everyone she knew. There were no strangers in her life except for people she had not met. To know her was to love her.

Karen is survived by her husband Nolan, children, Wendy (Barry) Chase, Liberty; Tracy (Amy) Weaver, Roy; Darcy Weaver, Clinton; Kathy (Dan) Paaina, Hawaii; Becky (Jerry) Austin, Sandy; Randy Kartchner, Minnesota; Shanna (Mark) Hansen, Roy; 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two sons, Barry and Corey and her stepson Scott Kartchner.

The family expresses thanks to the nurses, staff and other patients at Dr. Johnson''s office. We would also like to thank the Hospice nurses with Intermountain Homecare.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.

Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
