Karen Frandsen Shepard
August 3, 1939 – August 20, 2021
Karen Frandsen Shepard, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on the evening of August 20, 2021 surrounded by her family. Karen was the eleventh child born to LaVern and Nellie Alex Andrene Tanner Frandsen in Price, Utah on August 3, 1939.
Karen was married to D. Kent Shepard for more than 61 years. She raised four children in Salt Lake City before moving to Kaysville, Utah in 2010.
She spent many summers in her youth at the family homestead up Indian Canyon and later at her own cabin in Samak, Utah with family and friends. She loved to be in the outdoors with her family. Family was always her first priority and was a devoted caretaker for her siblings, their children and her own children and families.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had many callings. She enjoyed the 16 years she spent in cub scouts and later the scouting program. She was responsible for many of the boys in the neighborhood receiving their Eagle Scout badge including her three sons.
Karen is survived by her husband D. Kent Shepard, children; Sherri (Dan) Openshaw, David Shepard, Mark (Debora) Shepard and Tom (Jerri) Shepard, sister Leola (Don) Jensen. seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by nine of her siblings; Lloyd, Bert, Richard, Hazel, Carl, Glenna, John, Andrene and Helen.
Karen will be remembered as a strong, independent thinking woman who always shared her opinions and gave straight answers. She will be greatly missed.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kaysville City Cemetery. Out of respect and safety for the immune compromised, masks will be required.
