Karen "Kellie" Vanden Bosch

Karen was born on January 3, 1933, in Ogden, Utah to Lou Henry and Ella Dean VandenBosch. At a young age she was nicknamed ‘Kellie’ and it stuck with her throughout her whole life. Kellie was the 4th child of 8 children. She passed away on October 12, 2024, at the age of 91. She died of natural causes peacefully in her sleep.

Kellie graduated from Ogden High School in 1952. She also graduated from Weber State College with an Associate of Science in 1955. Kellie was the first to graduate college from her family, this was a great accomplishment for her.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was endowed in the Ogden Temple.

In Kellie’s spare time she loved to bowl. She acquired many, many trophies, was on a bowling league and owned her own shoes and ball. Kellie loved spending time with family. She treated her nieces and nephews like they were her own. Many of them referred to her as their second mom/grandma.

Kellie had many vocations in her lifetime. She was a lifelong financial clerk. In 1988 she retired from Unisys (Sperry Corp) after 20 years of service. She was also employed by Marquardt Corp., Mountain Bell, and later on in life Kellie worked at Weber State testing center where she made lifelong friends. As a youth she also worked at the Orpheum Theater as an usher.

Kellie and her late brother Paul enjoyed the Utah Symphony and held season tickets for many decades and made charitable donations. They shared season tickets with their late sister Linda. Kellie and Paul gave all their nieces and nephews the opportunity to share their love of classical music by taking them to the symphony with them to enjoy the beautiful performances. Kellie’s love for classical music ran deep. Often times as you entered her home you could hear the beautiful music playing loudly from the back room.

Kellie’s father, Lou VandenBosch, was a well-known photographer in the Ogden area. She told stories of her love of going to his studio and assisting him late into the night helping him get his projects done in time for his clients. Kellie spoke highly of him and how much she loved helping him and spending time with him. She would greet the clients, assist him, and also help retouch photographs. His studio was above the Egyptian Theater in Ogden.

We’d like to send a special thank you to the Beehive Homes of Syracuse for their loving care and friendship they gave Kellie. Her time there was a gift to her of happiness and love. We’d also like to thank Inspiration Hospice for their end-of-life care to her. She spent her last year very happy and well taken care of.

Kellie is survived by her brother, David. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Lou Henry and Ella Dean VandenBosch; her sisters, Lois, Klea, Susan and Linda; and her brothers, Paul and Noel. 

Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
