Karl F. Martin OGDEN – Karl Fritz Martin, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Ogden Regional Medical Center from causes incident to age. He passed on to a better place to be with his Lord and Savior, surrounded by his loving family. Karl was born in Niederwuerschnitz, Saxony, Germany, on November 27, 1921, to Kurt and Rosa Martin. He had three brothers. Karl was educated in public and military schools. He joined the German Air Force in 1940 and spent World War II in cold Russia. Following the war, Karl lived in Hamburg where he met his future wife Erika “Ria” Margot Ziegler. They were married on Erika’s birthday in 1950 and later moved to Hamburg. In 1954, Karl and Erika immigrated to the United States settling in Ogden where their sponsor lived. His first job was washing cars for one dollar an hour. Later, he worked for Ray Citte and Cutrubus Motors. Karl will always be remembered for his love of fishing with his son, his kind personality, his beautiful garden, and his love of refinishing antiques. He loved to travel and often thought of his family in Germany. He returned to Germany several times and enjoyed his brothers, his family, and the great food. He loved to read, to do puzzles, and to work around his house. Karl was wonderful husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He also loved his friends. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife Erika and his son, Ronald (Leslie), two granddaughters, Heather (Brandon) Hutchins, Heidi Ann Martin and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, all of Germany. Memorial services will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 6 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3329 Harrison Blvd. Inurnment, Ogden City Cemetery.
