Karl Lyle Rackham, 80, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013 of natural causes.
He was born September 20, 1932 in Ogden, Utah a son Vernie Henry Rackham and Grace Mildred Cherry.
Karl served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1954. He was awarded two Purple Hearts for both wounds received in action against the enemy and for meritorious performance of duty.
On April 22, 1955, Karl married Adell Terkelson in Ogden, Utah. They lived in California for a short time before moving back to Ogden. They were married 57 years before Adell''s death in 2012.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ogden 40th Ward.
Karl retired from the Utah State Department of Transportation (UDOT) as a lab technician.
He was an avid bowler and volunteered for the last 20 years at the Senior Citizens Center and Marshall White Center pouring and teaching ceramic classes to all of his "Gals". He thoroughly enjoyed working in his yard and let him get a hammer and nail and who knows what would be created. Karl enjoyed hosting family parties at his home and being surrounded by family and friends. You were only a stranger the first couple of minutes and after that you were welcomed into his life.
Surviving are two daughters, Kim Jean Call, Syracuse; Terri Lynn Beecher, Ogden; ten grandchildren, Chad (Laura) Call, Brennan (Mindy) Call, Curtis (Ashley) Call, Brenda Call, Kelly Call, Justin (Melissa) Beecher, Aspen (Jesse) McKenna, Travis (Jennifer) Beecher, Matthew (Ronda) Beecher and Chase Beecher; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph Rackham, Gerald (Hazel) Rackham; and two sisters, Alice Proctor and Vivian Rackham. Extended family that were considered as his own siblings, Karen Tafoya, Charlene, Dick (Pat), Veva, and Van (Sue) Terkelson, Verna Koogle, Bonnie Bolduc and Betty Hymas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Adell, parents, and two brothers, Paul Rackham and Arthur Rackham.
The girls would like to thank Dr. Kevin Gardner and his staff for their professionalism and especially kindness towards Karl. He enjoyed going to see his friends often.
Graveside services will be held Monday, July 8th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
The family will meet with friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
