Karl George Wood

Karl George Wood, our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend returned home to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, December 29, 2016, having completed with honor, his sojourn on Earth. Born the seventh of nine children on September 21, 1934, in Provo, Utah, to Bertha May Steggell and George Lee Wood, he grew to be a valiant, loving, kind and gentle optimist who lived his strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, sharing it daily in word and action.

He graduated from Provo High School and Brigham Young University. He served two years as a US Army Combat Engineer and 37 years as an intelligence officer in the US Navy Reserve and at the Naval War College.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a dedicated servant of the Lord in every calling he received including as a missionary in the British Mission, as Bishop and in bishoprics, as a Stake Missionary and in many other capacities over the years.

He married his eternal sweetheart, Dorothy Darleen Rockwood on March 17, 1958 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they enjoyed a very happy life, having a family of eight children, working hard for 36 years in the family business (Neptune Swim School) and other work adventures, traveling the world and learning about the gospel.

He was a hard-worker throughout his life providing a wonderful example and reminding us that "It's hard work to work hard." He worked for BYU and Weber State University as Director of Housing and in Auxiliary Services retiring in 1988.

A highlight for him was working in the SLC 2002 Olympic Village and at the Mt. McKinley Princess Lodge in Alaska.

He is well known for his terrific sense of humor and especially his genuine interest in others and his unconditional love for his family. We are grateful for all he has done to ease the burdens of others throughout his life and are blessed to have had the privilege to be counted among those he loved most.

Karl is survived by his children, Carolyn (Steven) Smith, Jennette Wood, Colleen Wood, Linda (Dave) Theurer, Stan (Valorie) Wood, Donna (Duane) Rock, Scott (Kim) Wood and Mark (Angie) Wood; 32 grandchildren and five and-a-half great-grandchildren, sister, Anne Wood Peay and brother, Bill Wood.
