KARMA RAE CARLSON

1922-2017

Karma Rae Carlson passed away on March 22, 2017 she was 94. Karma was born on September 1, 1922 as the youngest of nine children born to Hiram Sylvester Richardson and Kjersten (Carrie) Jerusha Nielsen Richardson.

She was born and raised in Vernal, Utah and graduated from Uintah High School. Karma moved to Provo to attend Brigham Young University and worked at Geneva Steel Plant during World War II. She married Robert Meredith Carlson on November 29, 1946 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple and were married for 64 years before Bob passed away in January, 2011. They were truly devoted to each other and cared for one another in good times or bad.

Bob and Karma had four children, Steven C. Carlson, Meredith Anne Gibson, Brenda Rae (Derek) Mehl and Karrie Lyn (Troy) Carlson.  Their early married years were spent living in Provo and running the family business "Carlson Sporting Goods". After selling the family business, they lived in Bountiful and then Sacramento California, but ultimately moved back to Utah again to be close to their kids and grand kids. Karma's greatest joy was her family and when her health would allow, she attended any and every activity her kids or grandchildren were involved in. When her health would not allow her to attend physically she would always get a full account of our activities and experiences and relived them with us as we told her about them.

Karma has been an active member of the LDS Church her whole life and has served in various callings in the Primary and Relief Society. She has endured many health trials during her life that were hard and difficult to overcome, but she was always was very upbeat and tried to maintain a positive attitude even down to her very last day here on earth. Her sense of humor and quick wit was one of her best and most endearing qualities. If you ever needed someone to talk to that would help you see the brighter side or to help you find a way to laugh through the struggle, Karma was the one to go to. She had a great memory and could keep us all entertained with her ability to tell amazing stories about growing up on the ranch in Vernal or some of the shenanigans she and her older siblings were involved in and some of the ways she kept herself entertained as the last child living at home. Being the baby of the family she was well protected and indulged by her older siblings.

Karma is survived by her four children, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who love her dearly. She was preceded in death by her Father and Mother, her husband Bob, her 8 siblings and other dearly loved extended family members. She will be forever missed, loved and remembered as the great lady she was.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary 727 North 400 East, Bountiful. Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment is at the Centerville City Cemetery. Karma's family would like to thank the staff at Avalon for the care they gave our mom and grandma in the last days and weeks. Also much love to her niece Liz and wonderful friend Gail.
