Katherine Joan Peterson Schurman

September 20, 1958 ~ January 29, 2017

Katherine Joan Peterson Schurman, 58, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Sunday, January 29, 2017.

She was born September 20, 1958 in Anacortes, Washington to Alfred Joaquin Cabral and Joan Eva Merrill. She was raised and educated in San Diego, California.

Katherine married Mark M. Peterson and they moved to Utah and were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, enjoying 20 years together. She later married Todd Schurman; they were later divorced and remained friends.

Katherine was a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she enjoyed serving as Primary Chorister, Sunday School and as a Relief Society teacher.

She was a licensed cosmetologist and enjoyed working for UPS as a Customer Service Representative.

Katherine enjoyed poems, writing, dancing, traveling, antiques, and spending time with family and grandchildren, but her passion was serving the disabled and less fortunate. She really loved the beach.

She will be remembered most for her big heart. She never knew a stranger and saw the light of Christ in everyone she met.

Katherine is survived by her children, Louis F. Peterson, Salt Lake City; Chandra (Tyler) Stowe, Syracuse; Abel M. (Courtney) Peterson, Salt Lake City; George N. Peterson, Salt Lake City; Mark “Markie” M. Peterson, Jr., West Jordan; ten grandchildren; father, Fred Cabral; brothers, Richard Joaquin Cabral, Dana Joaquin Cabral, Jonathan Charles Cross, all of California; Nick Cabral, and sister, Fatima Cabral, both of Oregon; and by her nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her mother, Joan Eva Cross, brother, Alfred J. Cabral, grandparents, Eunice Sills, Joseph Dennis Merrill, her biological father, Robert Weaver, her stepfather, Ben Cross, and her nephew, Jonathan Cross.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Meadows Ward Chapel, 700 South 2500 West, Syracuse. A viewing will be held Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church.

Interment, Herriman Cemetery.
