Kathleen Barney 1952-2009

WEST JORDAN - Kathleen Barney, born to Vernon D. and Kathryn Owen Barney in Ogden, Utah, on 23 April 1952, died on Saturday, November 7, 2009. Kathy lived in Ogden, Kaysville, Sandy, and West Jordan, Utah.

A sweet, innocent, warm, and loving person, Kathy grew up in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Ogden 39th Ward, and especially enjoyed attending the Ogden, Davis, and Sandy-area Special Needs Mutuals, and the wonderful people who helped the disabled children and adults. Throughout her life, her extended family, many neighbors, and friends were especially kind and generous to her. Kathy attended the Ogden-Weber Education Center and worked through Enable Industries at Faye Stacey’s Beauty School, Deseret Industries, Hill Air Force Base, and Autoliv. She loved bowling; “I Love Lucy”; Richard Simmons exercise videos; drawings and “crabs” (crafts); spaghetti and meat balls; the color “lellow”; “Xena, the Princess Warrior”; what she called the “news” (actually Entertainment Tonight); the Osmonds; and bearing her testimony and passing out the weekly bulletin at church.

Kathy is survived by her brother, Ronald O. and sister-in-law, Marilyn S. Barney, sister, Mary Ann and brother-in-law, Robert J. Weir; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family is especially grateful to the caring staff of the West Jordan Care Center where Kathy lived for the last four years of her life.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 13 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday, November 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday prior to the funeral from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Interment in the Ogden City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to Enable Industries (2640 Industrial Dr., 84401) in Ogden, Utah, and the West Jordan Care Center (3350 W. 7800 S., 84088) in West Jordan, Utah.
