Kathy Messerly Bowen, 58, passed away following a heroic battle with ovarian cancer on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born November 16, 1954 in Ogden, Utah to Barnard Dempsey and Josie Peterson Messerly.

On November 24, 1972, Kathy married Gordon Russell Bowen in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple October 4, 1980.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully as a Primary Teacher, Counselor in the Primary Presidency and as a Relief Society President. She lived her faith and taught correct principles through her consistent character.

Kathy worked for the Weber County School District in the school lunch program as a unit manager. It wasn''t a job a€" for 24 years she put her heart into the kids and it was a labor of love.

She enjoyed shopping, gardening, camping, "doing lunch" and spoiling her grandkids, Jake (Cuppycake), Luke (The silly banana slice), Kalie (Kaliebelle), Ryan (Rybear), Mason (Mase) and Shelby (Tweety Bird).

Kathy is survived by her husband, Gordon; three daughters, Andrea (Lee) Bowen Smith, Ogden; Kimberly (Aaron) Bowen Steele, Marriott; Teri (Josh) Bowen Steele, South Ogden; one son, John (Apollonia) Bowen, South Weber; six grandchildren; and five brothers, Ross (Barbara) Messerly, Marriott; Craig (Nancy) Messerly, South Weber; Terry (Diane) Messerly, Kaysville; Paul (Susan) Messerly, Uintah; and Bruce Messerly, Layton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and grandparents

Graveside services will be held Monday, October 7th at 3 p.m. at the Uintah City Cemetery. The family will meet with friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
