Kathleen (Valberg) Buck passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 77 on Thursday, March 28th, 2024, after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia less than a year ago.
Kathleen was born August 29th, 1946, reared in Brigham City, Utah, and was the youngest child of John H. and Nancy (Emmett) Valberg. She loved her childhood and often talked about riding her bike, roller skating on the sidewalk around the block, playing jacks on her front porch, and playing games with her many childhood friends.
At the age of sixteen, she was the organist of the Brigham City 8th Ward Sunday School. While playing the organ, she noticed a handsome young man sitting in the audience who was visiting her church. Romney Harold Buck and Kathleen dated for two years before marrying for time and eternity in the Logan Temple on November 4, 1964.
Kathleen graduated from Box Elder High School in 1964. With the busy life of raising 7 children, she eventually graduated from Weber State University with her bachelor's degree in English in 2009 at the age of 63 to keep a promise she had made to her mother.
Kathleen had a strong testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and made a commitment to never turn down a calling in the church. She served as president of the Relief Society, Young Women’s and Primary organizations in the ward and presidencies at the stake level, as well as various other callings. She loved teaching and has been a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ her entire life. She also served alongside her husband working in the Ogden Temple for seventeen years, as well as serving as full-time missionaries together in the Utah Ogden Mission.
She and her husband found a common love for scuba diving and began traveling to dozens of sites around the world. They also made memories by going on several trips around Europe, Russia, Australia, Peru, Israel, and so many more beautiful places that brought them closer together and away from the stresses of life.
Kathleen dearly loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She loved accompanying her husband on long road trips to deliver loads, as well as gardening and reading. She had a great love for animals and cared for many cats over the years.
Kathleen is survived by her husband Romney and their children: David R. Buck (Kimberly) Layton, UT, Marilyn Miles (Lee) Eden/ W. Haven, UT, Kellie Garrison (Ronald) Hyde Park, UT, Amy Epperson (Scott) West Haven, UT, Steven V. Buck (Michelle) Taylor, UT, Shannon White (Brady) Taylor, UT, and Sherry Peterson (Nathan) Pleasant View, UT. She also has twenty-six grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, as well as her brother John E. Valberg (Carol), her sister Nancy Ann Macfarlane (Larry), and preceded in death by her sister Janice H. Hunsaker.
