Kathleen Hammon Thackeray

October 16, 1941 ~ April 15, 2014

Kathleen Hammon Thackeray, 72, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.  She was born on October 16, 1941 in Ogden to Howard Byron and Miriam June White Hammon.

Kathleen married the love of her life, Gregg Jay Thackeray, on March 19, 1971 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple beginning their wonderful 43 year journey together. Traveling with her husband through his Navy career, Kathleen lived in Washington, Virginia and Connecticut prior to settling the family back home in South Weber, Utah for the past 35 years.

Kathleen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She loved being a member of Relief Society and enjoyed teaching Primary. Kathleen enjoyed meeting new people through various retail positions and also worked for the IRS for many years. She loved making quilts and crafts for her children and grandchildren. She also donated her quilts and bought toys each year for children in need. Disneyland was her favorite place in the world. She was a kid at heart and made many wonderful memories there.

Along with her love for children, Kathleen’s greatest attributes were her optimistic attitude towards life, her wonderful sense of humor and her beautiful contagious smile. She was kind to everyone she came across and a truly genuine sweet, courageous woman.

Her most notable accomplishment and the joy of her life was being a mother. She was her children’s best friend and her family was the most important part of her life.

Kathleen is survived by her loving husband, Gregg Jay Thackeray, South Weber; children, Angela (Todd) Harkness, Lantana, TX; Jennifer Thackeray, South Weber; and Colby (Rachelle) Thackeray, Farmington; three beautiful grandchildren, Ava, BreeAna and Scarlet Kathleen; mother, June Hammon; brothers, Lynn, Earl, Rod, Joe, and Doug; and sisters, Leota Perkins, Linda Day, Susan Sulley, and Pat Micaleff.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard and her grandparents.
