OGDEN – Kathoryn B. Nielsen, 81, a life-long Ogden resident, passed away Friday January 25, 2013 at Mountain West Medical Center in Tooele, Utah.
Born Kathoryn Lucille on February 8, 1931 in Twin Falls, Idaho, she was the only child of Gordon W. and Julia K. Simons Blackhurst. Her family moved to Ogden in her early youth and she remained an Ogden resident, graduating from Ogden High School Class of 1949, and she also graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Utah State University, Class of 1956.
She always recalled her wedding day on March 17, 1956 to Lynn James Nielsen as the best day of her life.
Kathoryn taught for three years at Birch Creek Elementary and then became a mother, a devoted homemaker, and an active volunteer. She was a life member of St. James Catholic Church and received the Pope Pious X Award for her CCD service to the church. Kathoryn was also heavily involved in the PTA, even at the regional level, and was a devoted member of the Altruist Club and the Beehive Women's League.
Kathoryn loved to ski and was quite accomplished. She loved vacations and spending time with her family. She will be remembered most for always putting the interests of others first.
She was saddened by her husband, Lynn’s passing in 2006 just months before their 50th wedding anniversary. Kathoryn was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Mom, we hope there will be ice cream in heaven for you.
She is survived by her daughter, Julia (Charles) Holt of Tooele; sons, Jim (Cathy) Nielsen of Ogden, Gordon (Shelly) Nielsen of Harrisville, and Paul (Kaye) Nielsen, also of Ogden; and by her 17 loving grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at St. James Catholic Church, 495 N. Harrison Blvd., followed by interment at Aultorest Memorial Park.
Services are entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
