Kathryn (Kay) Beatrice Kelly Cook, age 63, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023, after a three-year battle with dementia.
Kay was born in 1959, in Nashville, Tennessee to Melvia Jacquelyn and Bobbie Pat Kelly. She graduated salutatorian from Chaparral High School in 1978. Kay then studied Radiologic Technology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She earned her degree in 1980 with a 4.0 GPA and received the prestigious Silver Platter in Radiologic Technology. She worked as a Radiologic Technologist for over 30 years.
Kay’s relationship with the Lord began in earnest around the age of twelve. She loved going to church and would walk to church with her siblings on Sunday mornings when Mom was sleeping after working all night. Kay gave her children names from the Bible. She loved animals and gave them names from the Bible as well: Esther, David, Samson, and Delilah. When Kay was thirteen, she memorized the Christmas Story, Luke 2:1-14, and recited it at the annual family Christmas gathering at Grandpa’s home. Kay was just as excited about the Lord in her latter days. About a year or two ago, her sister remembers her saying, “I want to draw closer to the Lord each day”.
Kay was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Japan Tokyo North Mission from 1984 to 1985. After returning from Japan, she accepted a Radiologic Technologist position in Salt Lake City. Kay then met her husband Dave in 1987 and they were married in the Salt Lake temple on February 18, 1989.
Kay loved her family and had a true servant’s heart. She worked in her garden growing delicious fruits and vegetables, which she mostly shared with other families. She crocheted beautiful blankets, from baby blankets to king size, as gifts to family and friends. She was caring, selfless, and always doing special things for others. She was very involved in church activities.
She will be deeply missed by her friends, family, and all who knew her.
Kay was preceded in death by her father, Pat Kelly.
Kay is survived by her mother, Jackie Kelly; husband, Dave; children, Nate, Rachael, Jesse, and Daniel Cook; brothers, Michael Kelly (Sandra), and Christopher Kelly (Renata); sister, Caroline Weatherly (George); and grandchildren, Tristan and Maddie; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and a host of friends who loved her dearly.
