Kay Vard Fellows
Kay Vard Fellows, 81, our loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, was called home to Heavenly Father on March 9, 2010, due to natural causes. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving family.
Kay was born May 6, 1928 in Preston, Idaho, to Orin Vard Fellows and Selma Christina Olson. He was raised on a farm where he gained a strong work ethic and a lifelong love of agriculture. In his early years, he loved riding his horse and hunting in the hills near Preston. He graduated from Preston High School in 1946. He then graduated from Utah State University and later received a Master Degree from Brigham Young University. He served an LDS mission in the Northwestern States. He also served in the Army during the Korean War.
Kay married Carol Jean Anderson on September 27, 1957, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they have enjoyed over 50 years together. They were blessed with five children.
Kay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a Seventy in the Melchizedek Priesthood for 30 years. He was then ordained as a High Priest. He served faithfully in many church callings and most recently had been serving a mission with his wife at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, which brought much joy and fulfillment to their lives. Kay spent many years teaching Seminary and Institute for the LDS Church.
Kay loved landscaping and always took pride in keeping a beautiful yard and garden. He became a certified “Master Gardner” and enjoyed educating others. Kay lived a full, happy life. He enjoyed spending time with family, watching sports, (especially Jazz and BYU), and reading. His happiest moments were the times he was surrounded by his grandchildren.
Kay will be remembered for his vast scriptural knowledge, his love of family, his dry sense of humor, and his calm, gentle manner. Kay was referred to as a “Miracle Man” because he was able to overcome many health challenges throughout his life.
Kay was preceded in death by his parents, Orin and Selma Fellows, and sister, Udean Fellows.
